(AP) ? The Georgia pardons board is likely to announce Tuesday whether it will grant leniency to condemned cop killer Troy Davis.

The board questioned Davis supporters about his claims of innocence and listened to the officer's family tearfully ask for the execution during a daylong hearing Monday.

Davis, 42, has long claimed he's innocent of killing Mark MacPhail in 1989 in Savannah, and the doubt about his guilt has attracted a host of high-profile supporters from the pope to former U.S. president Jimmy Carter. After decades of legal wrangling, Davis is set to be put to death by injection Wednesday, the fourth time in four years his execution has been scheduled.

The Georgia Board of Pardons and Paroles has the power to change death sentences but rarely does.

MacPhail's family said after the hearing they asked the board to reject Davis' clemency bid so they can have peace.

"A future was taken from me. A future we would have had together, the future he would have had with his family," said a tearful Madison MacPhail, who was a toddler when her father was killed. "I believe the death penalty is the correct source of justice."

Inside the closed-door meeting, a parade of attorneys and supporters asked the board to spare Davis' life. Outside, dozens of Davis' supporters hoisted a massive "Save Troy Davis" sign and formed a makeshift drum line at one entrance to the building. At another entrance, other supporters were holding a somber prayer vigil on his behalf.

MacPhail was shot to death Aug. 19, 1989, after rushing to help Larry Young, a homeless man who was pistol-whipped in a Burger King parking lot. Prosecutors say Davis was with another man who was demanding that Young give him a beer when Davis pulled out a handgun and bashed Young with it. When MacPhail arrived to help, they say Davis had a smirk on his face when he shot the officer to death.

Several of the witnesses who helped convict him at his 1991 trial have backed off their testimony or recanted. Others who did not testify say another man at the scene admitted to the shooting.

The U.S. Supreme Court even granted Davis a hearing to prove his innocence, the first time it had done so for a death row inmate in at least 50 years. The high court set up a hearing, but Davis couldn't convince a lower federal judge to grant him a new trial. The Supreme Court did not review his case. Federal appeals courts and the Georgia Supreme Court have upheld his conviction, leaving the parole board as his last chance.

The pardons board in 2007 decided to delay Davis' execution for 90 days to grant the courts more time to review the case. A year later, it denied clemency and allowed his execution to go forward. Since then, though, three new members have been appointed.

"We are hopeful this tremendous outpouring of support will demonstrate there's such a huge concern about this case, and that this message will resonate with them," said Laura Moye of Amnesty International, who delivered thousands of petitions in support of Davis to the board last week. "The very reputation and faith that this public has in its justice system is on the line."

Among those who support Davis' clemency request are former president Carter and Pope Benedict XVI. A host of conservative figures have also advocated on his behalf, including former U.S. Rep. Bob Barr, ex-Justice Department official Larry Thompson and one-time FBI Director William Sessions.

Attorneys said the board heard from Quiana Glover, who said she was at a friend's house in June 2009 when another man told her he killed MacPhail, and Brenda Forrest, a juror who helped convict him in 1991 but is now having second thoughts.

"I feel, emphatically, that Mr. Davis cannot be executed under these circumstances," Forrest said in an affidavit presented to the board.

The Rev. Raphael Warnock, a Davis supporter who spoke at the hearing, said the board was attentive and peppered the speakers with questions. But he said it's too hard to predict how the panel will decide.

"It's a very difficult place to be. A man's life hangs in the balance," he said. "But we were very clear that an execution should not take place."

Two of the panel's five members have already reviewed the case several times: Gale Buckner, a former Georgia Bureau of Investigation agent, and Robert Keller, the ex-chair of a Georgia prosecutors group. The other three have been appointed to the board since 2009. They are: James Donald, the former head of the Georgia Department of Corrections, Albert Murray, who led the state's juvenile justice program, and Terry Barnard, a former Republican state lawmaker.

Prosecutors have stood by their case through the years. They say ballistics evidence links Davis to the shooting and that many of the concerns about witness testimony were raised during the trial. The allegations that someone else later confessed to the shooting, they say, are inconsistent and inadmissible in court.

MacPhail's relatives said there's no question that prosecutors charged the right person.

"They heard the truth ? which is the most important part. I believe they will rule in our favor," said MacPhail's widow, Joan MacPhail-Harris. "He had ample time to prove his innocence and he failed."

Android Game Review: Greedy Spiders

YouTube link for mobile viewing

I don't like bugs but I do like puzzles. I'm not particularly fond of spiders, either (too many eyes and legs for my taste), so the idea of depriving them of their meal seemed like a good enough premise to give a whirl. The result is many an hour lost and homework neglected.

Greedy Spiders is a turn-based puzzle game where you (as some omnipotent, web-cutting force) are trying to outwit a spider (presumably a greedy one) and keep him from his meal of winged insect. This is done by touching a slice of web to cut it away and therefore keep the spider from getting from place to place.

Webs are set up in what I can best describe as a connect-the-dot format. There are points that webs connect to and it's at these points the spider can pivot around, change directions, and the like. You also take turns with the spider, with your move always going first. You snip some web, the spider walks, you snip again, so on and so forth.

If your bug gets eaten, you lose. If you manage to save your bug(s) from the spider, though, you win and advance to the next level. You're rewarded with stars for completing a level, Angry Birds-style, with one star being the utmost minimum and three stars for totally spaking some spider heiny.

The game also ramps up in difficulty, starting you off with only one bug to save and one spider trying to eat it. As you continue through the levels, you'll be tasked with saving more than one bug (I'm at four right now) from one spider. Once you're all buttered up and comfortable, however, you'll have to start contending with more than one spider trying to eat more than one bug. That's where it gets a bit stressful.

To ease your pain in the later levels, sometimes you're rewarded with some powerful options and abilities, but they're limited. You can sometimes wield fire to burn large sections of web away, put a dummy bug on the web to distract and fool a spider, or even "invoke a supernatural power" to teleport your bug off the web. The last one kind of escapes me, but hey, it's at your disposal.

Greedy Spiders is a pretty fun game. The graphics are well done, it's smooth, and there's a lot of content to explore. Just when you think you've begun to get the hang of things, another variable is introduced, and you're back to square one, fighting for your bug's survival.

There's both a free version and a paid version of Greedy Spiders, with the paid version running 99 cents. The free version only has 64 of the 128 levels, so if you don't mind starting over, you could play through the first 64 to make sure you enjoy it before spending a buck to get the rest of the game. In my opinion, it's another in the line of quality pseudo-puzzle games on Android and is totally worth checking out.

For those hankering to stick it to some spiders, we've got download links after the break.

Choosing A Computer For Gaming | Necessary Articles

If you are really into computer games, there are certain computers that can give you a better gaming experience than others. Although many people will tell you that you need large storage and memory capacity, bigger is not always better when it comes to gaming computers.

Speed counts most for gaming ? and without speed most games won?t get past the menu. If you?re looking into a pre-built computer, you?ll have to investigate its speed because speed isn?t often advertised. Find out what the GHz of the computer is. Also, you should find out if the computer has an L2 cache because without it, you won?t be able to play games.

The RAM is also important, but the speed of the RAM is more important. The greater the RAM the better, but the speed is really what matters. If the speed isn?t listed, then the computer probably has a slow RAM. You can usually add RAM to most pre-built computers, but of course it would be ideal if you buy a computer that already ahs a fast RAM.

For computers for work, you give importance to the storage capacity of the hard drive. Again, the speed of the hard drive is the more important number when it comes to gaming computers. Computer games require the system to be able to handle huge amounts of data quickly.

Sound and video cards are a vital component of a gaming computer. If you don?t want to spend too much for a gaming computer, then you should upgrade these cards for a better gaming experience.

Many gamers build their own computers to ensure that they get what they want and need. Since most of us don?t know how to do that, we usually just buy pre-built computers. Go online to check the best companies and the features and prices they offer for their gaming computers. Buying a brand offers you reliability and a reasonable warranty, but not all brands cater for the gaming market. Some buy a standard computer believing that they can upgrade RAM and other components, but if the CPU and hard drive cannot handle the speeds required, no amount of upgrades will help.

Intramural season kicks off with softball, flag football ? The ...

On September 11, the intramural season kicked off with four softball games on Williams Field. These games signaled the start of a long-time college tradition, intramural athletics.

According to senior Jeremy ?Bugs? Hartke, Director of Intramurals,? there will be a host of sports offered this year. This semester will include football, softball, ping-pong, powderpuff football, dodgeball and disc golf. There is also a video game tournament in the works.

Intramurals are open for any MidAmerica Nazarne University student or staff member, and the sports will take place on various nights throughout the week. Softball will be played on Sundays and Mondays, while powderpuff teams will compete on Wednesday nights. The flag football teams will battle on Thursday nights throughout the fall semester.

Senior Jake Isbell plays on the softball team ?The Double Entendre? and enjoys the softball competition.

?Even though I?m not very good at it. I?ve been on the same team since I was a freshman, and it?s a blast.?

When asked why he plays intramural sports, Isbell replied, ?It?s a way to continue to have fun with your friends outside of class, and compete. I love it.?

Senior Kelly Neiderheiser, a competitor on the powderpuff team ?The Heisman Hunnies,? says she plays intramurals because, ?I like being on a team and making new friendships and having fun.?

?It?s fun competition between you and your friends,? Hartke said. ?It?s a way to get involved in the school. And you get a cool shirt if you win a championship.?

When asked about the championship t-shirt, Hartke said, ?I can?t describe the t-shirts. You have to see them to experience it.?

Hartke is the current Director of Intramurals, a position on the Associated Student Government Executive Council. This is his first year in the position.

?I love to play sports and I wanted to see some new things added to intramurals and I figured there was no better way [to change things] than to run for the position,? he said.

Registration for softball, football and powderpuff? is currently closed.

Bluesman Willie "Big Eyes" Smith dies at age 75 (Reuters)

CHICAGO (Reuters) ? Grammy-winning blues musician Willie "Big Eyes" Smith, who was a longtime sideman for Muddy Waters, died of a stroke on Friday in Chicago at age 75, according to a statement on his website.

Smith's death comes less than six months after the passing at age 97 of blues master Joe Willie "Pinetop" Perkins, with whom Smith shared a Grammy win this year in the best traditional blues album category for their 2010 release "Joined at the Hip."

Smith said backstage at the Grammy Awards that he first met Perkins as a boy and was glad to have found success recording with his elder. "To tell you the truth, right now I'm one of the happiest men on earth," he said at the February event.

While the Grammy win at age 75 was Smith's first, he had previously had a long career playing with the late blues legend Muddy Waters.

Born in Helena, Arkansas, in 1936, Smith went to Chicago at age 17 and heard Waters playing for the first time. He later joined Waters' band as a drummer in the early 1960s.

In 1964, Smith was forced to pack up his drum kit for a time and he supported himself with odd jobs such as driving a taxicab in Chicago, according to a profile on his website.

But Smith rejoined Waters' band in 1968 and played with him through the 1970s, the period when Waters won his six Grammys.

Aside from the drums, Smith also played the harmonica and sang. In the 1980s, he performed in the Legendary Blues Band with Perkins, Louis Myers, Calvin Jones and Jerry Portnoy.

Neil Portnow, president and CEO of The Recording Academy, said in a statement that Smith was a "great, versatile Chicago bluesman" who "made an indelible impact" on the blues genre.

"Our sincerest condolences extend to his family, friends, fans and all who will continue to appreciate his rhythm and riffs for generations to come," Portnow said.
