Chinese remedy works on 'brain cancer' ? SMOKINCHOICES (and other ...

By Suzanne Hoholik THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH

Ohio State University researchers have found that an ingredient in a Chinese herbal therapy halts cancer cells from moving into the brain or growing once they migrate there. ?? ?It appears to stop the tumor cells in their tracks,? said Dr. E. Antonio Chiocca, professor and chairman of neurological surgery at Ohio State.

The researchers tested the compound in mice and found that the ingredient, called indirubin, also reduced blood flow to the tumors, which prevented the glioblastoma cells from growing. ?? ?If you?re diagnosed with that disease, it?s a death sentence,? said Sean Lawler, a co-author of the study who now works at the University of Leeds in England.

?This approach may be a step in the right direction of limiting tumor growth.? ?? Researchers also found that there was a significant survival rate among the mice tested. The study recently was published online in the journal Cancer Research. ?? Chiocca said there are two types of tumors ? those that grow and push away from the brain (they can be treated with surgery, radiation and chemotherapy) and those that invade the brain. ?? ?These are the ones we cannot treat,? Chiocca said.

  • But indirubin seems to stop the invasion from taking place, he said.
  • Each year, about 20,000 Americans are diagnosed with this type of brain cancer. Most are expected to live only about 15 months more, Chiocca said.
  • The next step is to ?chemically synthesize? the indirubin into a pill form, he said.
  • Researchers said they hope this study will generate interest from drug-makers or the government to fund the next phase.
  • ?We?d like to adapt this drug to optimize it for use in patients,? Lawler said. ?I would like to push this one quite hard.?
  • The team is a couple of years away from taking a drug to clinical trials with humans, and there are some roadblocks.
  • Chiocca said indirubin is already used in China to treat leukemia, so it?s not something drug companies can patent to treat for brain tumors. But he hasn?t given up.
  • He has submitted a proposal to the National Institutes of Health for funding.

(For me this story is both good news and bad news ? really bad news!? The ?good news? is that the Chinese have been using this ingredient for who knows how long ? successfully in an? herbal therapy which has certain influence over cancer in it?s behavior within cells.? They have been using it successfully treating leukemia. ?? Those Chinese. . .always coming up with ways to cure one thing or another.? Everybody knows their methods go back thousands of years,? so how up-to-date can it be?

Herbal formuli are natural, helpful and healing ? found generally, growing in nature.? This is not toxic, but likely quite powerful and one must understand the system and how to utilize it.? That?s what Chinese medicine does.? Indirubin is a minor constituent of the indigo plant which is used in the Traditional Chinese prescription ?Dang Gui Long Hui Wan 2? along with 11 other herbal medicines.

If the intention is to heal the sickness (cancer), why not just learn how the Chinese practitioners do it?? It seems to be working and successful. . . and NON-TOXIC.? How foolish of me.? We are Americans ? our way is better. We have rules for all things medical ? and Cancer is a medical condition to be sure.? Our medical establishment states clearly that there are definitive prescribed methods:? we have surgery, radiation and chemotherapy ? - none of which anybody is eager and glad to go through.? Many prefer to die rather than go thru it.? (like my husband with his brain cancer;? he found the treatment worse than the disease and asked to be allowed to die without it)

According to our establishment ?wisdom? nutritional? methods of treating cancer or any sickness is nothing more than quackery or some kind of scam.? Not allowed.? Physicians using such methods are in danger of losing their license to practice or run out of country to treat patients.? The much loved Dr Clark was forced to treat patients in Mexico? for decades as was the case with Dr Max Gerson whose daughter Charlotte continues to treat patients in Mexico long after his demise.? If anyone wants a bigger, more fact-filled description of our medical reality in U.S. of A., try picking up Susanne Somers book ?Knockout?.? Her experience and research are well presented.

Back to our bad news here.? We have a potential cure for the countless people who develop a brain cancer.? Here is a technique that seems to work ? could work for us. ? But its an herbal formula and we don?t do that in America.? We use pharmaceuticals made by BIG PHMA.? Therefore,? We have to first take this ingredient into the lab and try to precisely determine? its constituent make-up;? once done, we can reproduce it thru chemicals.? And then if all goes well we need a few more years to test it and the clinical trials and on and on, etc.?? This is how it works.? Since natures produce can?t be patented, PHRMA must try to come up with a close copy ? but chemical of course or it wouldn?t be pharmaceutical.

The good news is there is a solution and its name is indirubin, but guess we need a Chinese doctor if we want a shot at it.? The bad news is we shall loose 1000?s more while we are waiting for the aforementioned process to come about.

Hey, I?m just a nosy blogger ? - what do I know?????? Jan)
